Does anyone remember the ole' high school days, when girls were only allowed to wear skirts no shorter than edge of their finger tips to class? Well I would like to make that an official lifelong fashion rule. Over the weekend, I was invited to a very popular night club downtown, and to my surprise, despite being in the VIP suite, there seemed to be an abundance of girls parading around in t-shirts as cocktail dresses. Did I miss the memo? Is this the new trend in cocktail attire, because I seemed to have missed that style tip in this month’s WWD issue. I actually witnessed one girl raising her arms in effort to wave to her friend from across the bar, and in doing so her dressed rose up three inches subsequently inviting the entire night club to get a look-see at her latest bikini wax. I'd like to believe that I'm not a prudent person, however I was in a crowd that was showing me a whole new meaning of the phrase; throw caution into the wind. Do yourselves a solid, fashionista’s, and remember that there is a level of appropriate style of dress in every situation, and unless you're working as a late night exotic dancer, and it’s your turn to present your routine to prospective clients; be sure that your outfit for a night out includes some underpants and a skirt that doesn't ride up to your shoulders when you raise your arm to hail the taxi for the ride home.

The comeback of all things 1970s was completely inevitable, and something tells me there won't be any raised eyebrows when the wide legged nostalgia hits the local racks. Yes, it's all about bell- bottoms for the upcoming spring season, and it's best to ride the wave than be washed over by its aggressive wrath. With skinny jeans now so common that they have become more of a staple; it's exciting that a different style from the same time line would emerge as a trend. While tapering the best assets of the modern stylista, the bell-bottom ends in a long dramatic flair, drawing a lean and tall look. Ode to Sunglasses

There is nothing that I love more than my over sized sunglasses. They don’t have to be a high end piece to serve many of my outfits very well. Whether I'm in my pajamas, or in a tuxedo, my sunglasses make a great compliment to every occasion. Certainly, sunglasses are one of the best staples a fashionista could have in her accessory box. Finding the right pair can be a challenge, but once found one you may not be able to survive otherwise. Rules of thumb when sunglasses shopping: Asses you face honestly. Heart shaped faces have the best luck; they can wear almost any pair and be fabulous.  Longer faces should stick to more squared and sharper edged frames; balances out ones' features. Round faces should try oval frames; it will create a better shape to the face without over powering the essential features. Follow these rules when shopping for your next pair of "I can't live without these" sunglasses and the decision will appear without effort.

Has anyone noticed how many things we collect throughout a life time?  In fact, our very existence is like a special collection. It’s one we hold very close to your hearts; a series of experiences good or bad that teach us something about who we are, and the person we'd like to become. It's something we hold so sacred that we pass what we have learned on to our own children. We innately collect everything, from antiques, to friends, to even second husbands. In one way or another, we all are invested in the idea of collecting. As a fashionista, I view wardrobe in the same manner. Every piece in our closet is like a collection of book marks. A tiny reminder in our life story of something magical that gave us a boost of confidence, comforted us when we were distraught, empowered us when we felt powerless and expressed our inner voice when we were silent. To many people clothes are only clothes, and this is true. Clothes have no power on their own. However, it is up to every fashionista to pour a little of our individuality into the canvas that is wardrobe, creating any portrait of ourselves that we wish. It's my personal dream that every person can paint a fabulous portrait of themselves and discover an astonishing self worth.

Within the world of fashion we keep a dirty secret that is a great disservice to our consumers. I’m referring to the non-standardization of size. In one brand we may be a size 4 and in another we may be a size 77 and half. It’s a gross negligence to endure, and until manufacturing houses improve technology it’s not likely to change. So what’s a size 4 petite fashionista to do? There are visual tricks that can help give a little length to our vertically challenged sisters and manipulate even the most versed of on lookers. Just follow these simple rules of fit.

Rule # 1: Avoid mixing patterns. The overwhelming mesh of pattern only cancels itself out and smooches your body silhouette into a giant blob. Instead dress in more single colors from head to toe, making a longer and sleeker look.

Rule #2: Never belt a dress or shirt on the lower half of your body. This literally cuts your frame into two pieces and unless you’re working with a magician and being sawed in half, it’s probably not a desired look. A better option is to belt your garments at the top of the rib cage, which synchs the waist and makes for a longer torso.

Rule #3: Avoid wearing long length maxi dresses. It only stacks fabric against you. Alternatively wearing a sleek-cut maxi dress, with little volume and slimming print, will have an elongating effect.
